I Was Fooled

There is still a risk from this virus, but is it being exaggerated and used to impose arbitrary regulation and control? And the suggestion that “treatment” that causes sterility and feminization in men might be effective is truly frightening.

AS MARK TWAIN said, it’s easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled. The former does not expose to them their own gullibility; the latter does. In the video above, Dave Cullen of Computing Forever discusses why many people have become extreme lockdown, social distance, and face-mask zealots.

The warnings about the coronavirus that began spreading in the early spring of 2020 fooled many Americans, and I was one of them. The lockdowns seemed to make sense for a time, provided that they didn’t get extended to the point of ruining businesses, causing the unemployment rate to triple, and sending the US economy into a recession. Lockdowns don’t make sense beyond the point where economic problems begin causing more deaths than the virus does.

But lockdowns and incrementally increasing rules about mask wearing and social distancing are pleasing to politicians who covet power.

First, the new requirements give the power-mongers a metric by which to gauge their degree of control, by observing how many citizens willingly obey and start “Karening” (enforcing the new rules on dissident citizens).

Secondly, the new requirements serve to condition the public toward obedience, even as they are being stripped of their rights and freedoms.

As usual, the dissidents have turned out to be right at the last. But the herd is a weight that the dissidents can neither enlighten nor shrug off.

It is easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled, but some people can figure out their mistakes for themselves.
