Snowden: New Law Gives Government A Secret Backdoor To All Technology

NSA Whistleblower Edward Snowden warns newly enacted legislation gives governments a backdoor to all technology.

WHILE THE CORPORATE MEDIA is busy obsessing over fake news and Russian propaganda Edward Snowden is warning that a new law just passed gives the government the ability to put secret backdoors into any technology before it comes on the market.

The legislation, called Investigatory Powers Act, has gone almost entirely ignored by the corporate media and what little coverage there has been has been mostly ignored because no attention has been given to the fact that the massive surveillance powers apply outside of the United Kingdom.

The legislation doesn’t just apply to technology or citizens of the U.K. but also require the opportunity to put a government accessible backdoor into any technology operates in any manner whatsoever in the U.K. that involves communications that use electrical or elector-magnetic energy.

To be clear, any technology operating in the U.K. is required to allow the U.K. government to put a secret backdoor in it and that would include social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, KIK, WhatsApp and Google Plus as well as email services such as GMail, Live, Hotmail and Yahoo and even all instant messenger services.

As Snowden’s leaks previously revealed, the NSA bypasses laws to prevent spying on U.S. citizens by sending their data to the U.K. first and spying on their communications there.

While these mass surveillance operations have been conduced illegally in the past this new legislation legalizes the conduct and allows any foreign government anywhere in the world, regardless of local laws and privacy protections, to use U.K. required government backdoors to spy on their citizens for foreign surveillance purposes.

Snowden has embedded the following images in his warning via Twitter.
