The Upside of Diversity
THE MORE perceptive among you will have picked up on the fact that I’m not a major fan of diversity. Given that diversity has the same root as division I find “unity through diversity” up there with “war is peace” as a contender for the Orwell Prize. A people like the Japanese have almost no direct experience of diversity. Therefore there are no civil-rights acts, no forced busing, no governmental agencies counting how many of whom one hires, no voting-rights laws, no affirmative action, no cities burned down in racial rioting, no plummeting IQ levels and SAT scores.
Although I will admit that some of diversity’s claimed attributes, for instance that it challenges assumptions and adds colour, to be true. To wit:
A MENTALLY ILL woman who believed she was possessed by the spirit of Princess Diana and killed her housemate before cutting off his genitals to “protect Prince William” has been found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity at the Central Criminal Court. She also told psychiatrists that she had been inhabited by the spirits of Princess Diana and other British royals to stop a plot that would have put Prince William and Prince Harry in danger. Grace Miano (53) had been charged with the murder of Malawian man Limbani ‘Robert’ Mzoma (27) on 1 November 2018.
Colourful indeed. And no denying that it challenges our assumptions.
And speaking of insanity.
Liberals say “race is an illusion”
Liberals say “We must merge all races into one”
Liberals say “Racial diversity should celebrated”
Liberals believe all three things at the same time
Liberalism is a mental disorder
As an aside, I notice that these two worthies lived in this rather splendid house in Foxrock — Dublin’s wealthiest and most exclusive suburb. I’m sure the quarter of a million Irish couples currently scrimping to save the deposit on a modest apartment would love to know their secret.
